Song Joong Ki is expected to show off a chilling charisma in the noir drama “Hopeless”
Song Joong Ki recently heated up the 76th Cannes International Film Festival with director Kim Chang Hoon’s highly anticipated film “Hopeless”. He is garnering high expectations for a powerful transformation in his acting that viewers have not seen before.
The movie “Hopeless” is a noir drama that tells the story of Yeon Gyu, (played by Hong Sa Bin) a boy who wants to escape a hellish reality and ends up in a dangerous world after meeting the organization’s middle boss Chi Geon (played by Song Joong Ki).
Song Joong Ki, who has proven his wide range of acting skills through films like “Space Sweepers” and dramas like “Vincenzo” and “Reborn Rich,” challenges himself with a new acting transformation in the role of Chi Geon in “Hopeless.”
Chi Geon, the middle boss of the organization who has learned his own survival tactics in a cruel reality, recognizes Yeon Gyu, who bears similar wounds, and extends a helping hand.
Song Joong Ki perfectly embodies Chi Geon with a mysterious aura, a deep voice in the lower register, and cold gaze, creating a character with a different charm from his previous roles.
Notably, Song Joong Ki volunteered to star in “Hopeless” with no pay. Director Kim Chang Hoon praised him, “I wanted Song Joong Ki to bring out a coldness completely different from the gentle image he had previously shown. Watching his acting, I truly felt that he was really Chi Geon.” With his detailed acting, Song Joong Ki is expected to leave a deep impression on the audience.
“Hopeless” was invited to be screened at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival and is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 11th.
